Renewal FAQ

I just renewed my health insurance plan for 2022. How should I pay the rest of my 2021 premiums?

Keep paying Vermont Health Connect for 2021 coverage—just like always. In December 2021, you will get your first bill(s) for 2022 health insurance. That’s when you’ll start paying your insurance companies directly.

When will I get my first bill for 2022 coverage?

Your insurance companies will send your first bill(s) for 2022 coverage in December 2021. You can call your insurance company to ask exactly when you’ll get your bill.

  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont: 1-888-320-9798
  • MVP Health Care®: 1-800-348-8515
  • Northeast Delta Dental: 1-888-899-3734

Do I have to do anything to renew my health insurance plan?

Your plan automatically renews, so you don’t have to do anything. Just keep paying your monthly bill on time. Your monthly premium changes each year. Be sure to check the amount you owe before you pay.

Can I choose a different plan during Open Enrollment?

Yes, you can  decide to change plans each year during Open Enrollment. The Plan Comparison Tool can help you find a plan that best meets your needs.  If you switch, you must pay your first 2022 bill before your new plan starts.

What happens if I have a household change? What if someone moves out of my household or I make more money?

It’s important to let Vermont Health Connect know if there’s a change in your household. Important changes include a change of address, household members or income. Vermont Health Connect will then let your insurance company know about your changes.

I plan to select a health plan with a different health insurance company during Open Enrollment. Will my coverage automatically be activated?

No.  You must pay your first monthly premium to start coverage with a new insurance company.

If sign up during Open Enrollment, when will my insurance plan start?

Plan selections or changes reported by December 15, 2021, will be effective on January 1, 2022 (with first payment if needed).  Plan selections or changes reported between December 16 and January 15 will be effective February 1, 2022.
