Have Questions About Renewing Your Health Plan?

Stay Covered in 2019

For convenience, current members' 2018 health plans are auto-renewed for 2019 with the new plan costs and financial help, unless they receive a notice that additional information is needed. As a renewing customer, as long as you pay your bill, your 2019 coverage will be effective January 1st, 2019.

Please note, however, that big changes in plan costs and financial help mean that this is not the year to auto-renew! Members who comparison shop will likely find another option that can save them hundreds or thousands of dollars next year. Please take a few minutes to research plan options, starting with the Plan Comparison Tool.

You should log into your account or call the Customer Support Center by December 15 (for January 1 effective date) if:

You need to report a change in your income or household members

You want to pick a different health insurance plan for 2019

If you've checked out your options through the Plan Comparison Tool and learned that your current plan will still the best fit for you in 2019, you do not need to contact us.

We mailed a letter to all renewing customers in late October with all the information you need to know. If you have questions, please call the Customer Support Center.

Medicaid & Dr. Dynasaur Plan Renewal

Medicaid enrollment and renewals happen throughout the year, not just during Open Enrollment. If you have a Medicaid or Dr. Dynasaur plan, you will receive a letter when it is time for you to renew. If you have questions, call Green Mountain Care directly at 1-800-250-8427 (toll-free).

Changing Your Health Plan

Open enrollment is the time of year when you can make changes to your Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont or MVP Healthcare insurance coverage. The new plan year begins January 1, 2018. If you want to change plans, you should log into your account or call the Customer Support Center. If you don’t contact us and confirm a plan choice by December 15, 2018, you likely won’t be able to change plans until the next Open Enrollment.

Health insurance can be complicated, but help is available. Use the steps and resources below as a guide to help you select the plan that best meets your needs and budget.

Step 1Get familiar with health insurance lingo and learn the terms to better understand how health insurance can work for you.

Health Insurance Basics

Step 2Find out what financial help you qualify for and see estimates of the total costs of each plan choice. Most Vermonters can either get free or low-cost coverage through Medicaid or Dr. Dynasaur, or get help to lower their monthly premium and out-of-pocket costs.

Step 3If you have questions about free preventive careprovider networks, or covered prescriptions, you can find helpful links from our Health Plans page or speak to a representative from a health insurance carrier. If you'd like to talk through health insurance terms or information in person, you can meet with a trained, certified in-person Assister near you.

Step 4If you decide to change to a different health insurance plan for next year,  log into your account or call Vermont Health Connect at 1-855-899-9600 (toll-free) to let us know. You can change your plan until the end of the Open Enrollment Period, which is December 15, 2018.

Reporting Changes

If you have insurance through Vermont Health Connect and have had changes in your family or income, we need to know. A change such as a wedding, a birth, a raise, or a new job could change your coverage or the amount of financial help you qualify for. Learn more about reporting a change.
