Public Health Emergency Unwind / Medicaid status update


Health care is important for our health-being. At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the federal government declared a public health emergency (PHE). Vermont Health Connect is committed to providing health coverage.

The public health emergency has not yet ended. This page includes information about what you can do to prepare for the end of the public health emergency. Check back here for updates as they become available.

Q: Are we still in a public health emergency?

A: Yes. The public health emergency (PHE) is still active and has been extended through October 2022.

Q: What does the public health emergency mean for me?

A: During the public health emergency, Medicaid programs can keep people on Medicaid. States have flexibility to ensure people could keep their health insurance. This has helped millions of people maintain health insurance during the pandemic. It helps protect people from the breaks in health insurance coverage and access to care.

Starting November 2021, Vermont Health Connect (VHC) asked new Medicaid and Dr. Dynasaur applicants for income verification. Existing Medicaid and Dr. Dynasaur members still do not need to provide income verification.

Q: What can I do now?

A: Make sure we know how to reach you. Update your address, phone number, and e-mail. Also tell us your personal circumstances change. We want to know about things like changes to income or a change or the number of people living in your home (household size). You can report these changes online or call us at 855-899-9600.
